'Crochet Chair'

Designed by Marcel Wanders

Manufactured by Moooi

A different interpretation of lace structure brings together the cosines of Zeeuws caps, table cloths and strong architectural expression.

Next to the soft but solid shape of hand-sewn crocheted flowers the Crochet chair projects a delicate shadow on the floor it sits on.

'Do hit Chair'

Designed by Marijn van der Pol

Manufactured by Droog Design

This conceptual chair reminds me of an impressing experience I witnessed being in the art studio of Ewerdt Hilgemann, who is well known for imploding stainless steel cubes thru the process of vacuuming the air out. The result of which looks somehow like the 'Do hit chair' although Marijn works completely the other way around. Brave buyers experience his work after they do hit their purchased cube!

'Knotted Chair'

Designed by Marcel Wanders

Manufactured by Cappellini

In 1996 Marcel Wanders produced this iconic chair for Droog Design. Inspired by the arches of gothic cathedrals the shape of this chair is formed by the gravity of hanging ropes: an artimide fiber braid with a carbon centre, impregnated and thereby

strengthened with epoxy.

The Knotted Chair is a mind boggling example of handcraft combined with the latest technology.

'JTB Reincarnated Chair'

Designed by Mischa van der Wekke

Manufactured by MW

Who says grand mothers style can't live next generation? What it just needs is a smart cut by Mischa's machine and a recomposing of details that fit his concept.

This set looks good from every angle and refers as well to the good old days as to a new reality in which we all need to rethink resources and come up with creative perspectives for a revived future. Love it!

'Flax ottoman, 140 mtr'

Designed by Christien Meindertsma

for Thomas Eijck, in collaboration with traditional rope maker 'Touwslagerij Steenbergen'.

When I started at the Zeeuws Museum I got introduced to the work of Christien Meindertsma. Very thoroughly she analyzes the core products she's working with, flax in this instance. What can be made of it and how can this material, locally grown and processed in The Netherlands, be revived in workshops across Holland?
